The name of the parish was generally spelt "Strickathro(w)" in the past. The parishes of Stracathro and Dunlappie were united in 1618.

Located at National Grid ref. NO618658, on the site of a Roman fort. Built 1799. The mediaeval kirk was dedicated to St Rule. See Stracathro Parish Church for further exterior and interior photographs.

Site of Dunlappie burial ground

Above: the site of the former kirk and kirkyard of Dunlappie, now planted in conifers, on the west bank of the West Water, beside Dalhousie Bridge (NO591680). The last burial was in 1824. There is no evidence of monuments. See Dunlappie Church for further details and photographs of the site.

Erected by ANN DUNCAN in memory of her beloved husband WILLIAM JAFFRAY tailor and merchant at Inchbare for 33 years who died 17th September 1878 aged 56 years. Also of their six children who died in infancy. In memory of the above ANN DUNCAN widow of WILLIAM JAFFRAY who died Dec. 9th 1892 aged 67. Their sons ALEXANDER KINMOND JAFFRAY died Oct. 3rd 1893 aged 37. {Interred in Balgay Cemetery Dundee}.
