Monumental inscriptions

Monuments in Guthrie Kirkyard bearing pre-1855 information (ca. 70 stones) are listed in Alison Mitchell (ed.), "Pre-1855 Monumental Inscriptions in Angus, Vol. 1: Strathmore" (Edinburgh: Scottish Genealogy Soc., 1996), which can be bought from the Scottish Genealogy Society. (It's listed as "Angus MI - Vol. 1. Pre-1855 Strathmore" in their online shop.)

That volume also lists 11 monuments in the former kirkyard of Kirkbuddo (or Carbuddo), at one time associated with the parish of Guthrie. Kirkbuddo now lies in the parish of Inverarity & Methy.

Andrew Jervise recorded some monuments at Guthrie in his "Epitaphs & Inscriptions", vol. 2, pp. 144-51 and at Kirkbuddo on pp. 151-3 of that volume.

Kirkbuddo kirkyard

Above: the burial ground at the site of Kirkbuddo kirk, which was demolished in 1822. Located at NO493432. Further photos are at Kirkbuddo Old Church. A partial listing of monuments at Kirkbuddo is given below, after the listing for Guthrie Kirkyard.

Photographs

Photographs of any of the inscriptions listed below will be supplied on request by e-mail, insofar as I judge it possible to obtain them. The photos will be 2304 pixels by 1728 pixels, and approx. 850 kilobytes in size, taken in good lighting to show the inscriptions rather than the whole monuments. Please be prepared for a considerable delay in sending photos.
